A Daegaya themed festival in the vivid colors of flowers.
Festival Description
Every year, the banks of the Hoecheon Stream in Daegaya-eup, Goryeong County take on the vivid colors of many thousands of cosmos flowers - the stars of the newly established (2018) Cot Festival hosted by Goryeong-gun County and held on September 24-25. These colorful flowers, which bloom after surviving the heat of the summer, fill passersby with a taste of autumn. This local landscape festival was jointly created by the local government and county residents.
The Hoecheon Stream is a tributary of Daegacheon Stream and Anrimcheon Stream (both of which originate from Gayasan Mountain) and is also called ‘Modumnae’, which means ‘Stream joining another stream’ in Korean. In 2012, a 5.4-kilometer-long bicycle trail and a walking trail were created along the edges of the Hoecheon Stream. Daegaya Bridge, a hybrid structure consisting of a suspension bridge and an arched bridge, adds to the splendor of the surrounding scenery. In particular, the cosmos flower field cultivated on a 60,000m2 plot of land along the banks of the Hoecheon Stream forms a natural landscape that harmonizes nicely with the local stream ecology. The flower field has become a healing space for visitors and locals alike.
